Coastal Cliff Ambush
A long and narrow coastal cliff designed for a goblin ambush.
Client:Dark Eagle Games

This project involved a long-term collaboration with Dark Eagle Games to design an extensive series of high-quality battlemaps for their "Harpy Guide" Kickstarter campaign . The scope of the project was diverse, requiring a wide array of environments ranging from detailed manor basements and hedge mazes to unholy shrines and expansive groves.
A recurring challenge for the client was ensuring the maps provided enough tactical space for Roll20 encounters, and interesting obstacles and layouts to challenge players. They expressed a strong preference for larger maps to avoid cramped combat scenarios.
To address this, we moved away from standard size presets and provided custom-scaled layouts that accommodated all the required narrative-driven mechanics.
The cornerstone of the final delivery successfully capped off a multi-stage project of more than 10 different battlemaps. It was this 30x40 Coastal Cliff Ambush map, designed specifically for a goblin encounter on a forest trail. The client's primary pain point was the need for a layout that felt like a "long path" hugging a thin stretch of land, providing enough room for tactical elements like fallen trees used for cover and the sheer drop of a coastal cliff. By scaling the map to a larger format and incorporating specific environmental cues, such as the narrow pathway and the strategic clutter, we delivered a visually immersive and mechanically functional space that met the high stakes of their publication.
